West Hills Softball Hits Again!

The West Hills Softball team, is about to begin an amazing new season with exciting junior varsity and varsity teams.
Last year the softball team ranked seventh in the Grossmont division, twenty first in sectional rank, and two hundred and fifty fourth out of all of California. When put into perspective those are pretty good numbers. Mike Applebaum, head coach of varsity, has high hopes for his team. As told by one of his players, he wishes to see the team qualify for CIF and with tons of practice and commitment, the team will make it pass the first game. The team as a whole wishes to defeat widely known rivals, such as the Santana Sultans.
The girls themselves would love to see the team reach their goals set for the year, but also for to see the goals they have set for themselves become a realistic possibility. Alexis Herrera, a Junior Varsity sophomore who played on last year’s team, has been playing for eight years now and also would like to see herself grow as a player. Although the Junior Varsity team finished with a winning season, unfortunately cannot be eligible for CIF. Herrera would like to see her team end with another winning season.
On March 11, 2014, both Varsity and Junior Varsity took a devastating lost to Bonita Vista. Loosing is no coach’s dream of beginning a new season, especially if they want that season to be a good one. The Junior Varsity team had high hopes of coming back in the fifth inning, but sadly Bonita Vista stole the bases right out from under them. Although the tables are turned against them, if the teams keep their heads high and negativity low, they are sure to come out on top, with a winning season. Varsity will need to step up their game in order to be able to qualify for CIF this year.
Although this is sure to be a tough season, the fans are in for a good one. No matter what these girls will put their all into the games they play. And maybe with good practice Varsity will conquer all and qualify for CIF and continue on from there. All in all this softball season looks like it will be an adventurous one, but the wolf pack is strong and we will conquer all. We are one, we are the pack!
